Mac users who want to start developing software for the Facebook-owned Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset platform can now do so. Oculus today released an update to their software SDK that opens up support for users on OS X:

  1. I have Unity 5.2.0f3 version installed in iMac with OS X Yosemite and I´m trying to run Oculus Rift DK2. I have installed runtime and I see correctly demo scene but in unity when I build a proyect with OculusUtilities integrated or when I see it in the editor, camera rotates accordingly with Oculus rotation but scene is not seen in the device.
  2. April 15 2014: Oculus Rift SDK 0.3.1 is released only supports windows. April 26 2014: jherico ports the 0.3.1 SDK to linux. This is the second time he ported the open source SDK to linux. May 22: Oculus SDK 0.3.2 with Linux and Mac OS X support is released. The closed source unity plugin for linux has not been released.
  3. Launch the Oculus app. If you run into additional problems completing the Oculus patch, uninstall and reinstall the Oculus app: First, to uninstall the Oculus software: Click the Windows key. Type in 'Add or Remove Programs' and then select Add or Remove Programs. Locate the Oculus app within Add or Remove Programs and click Uninstall.

Notably, the Oculus SDK is now available for Mac OSX, along with a version of the Oculus Runtime and Unity Tuscany Demo for Mac. There’s no word on when Linux support will be ready.
